Our son Ryan was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma in 2004. In 2007, my wife Missy was diagnosed with stage 2 triple negative breast cancer. On July 8th, 2009, Missy lost her battle to this horrible disease. 2 days later, on July 10th, Ryan also lost his. Together forever, they both watch over our family now from the heavens above. Below is our families journey through Ryan's treatments, along with the joy and laughter we tried to instill into our daily lives. Those days helped us all cope with the pain and suffering that comes with cancer and it's deadly treatments. Both Missy and Ryan endured high doses of chemo, radiation and surgeries. Over 150 nights spent in the hospital and many, many more days. More transfusions than I could count. Yet both Missy and Ryan took on each day with a positive attitude and warm smile for all their friends. We miss them terribly. They will always be a shining light in our lives.

This picture really captures the true face of childhood cancer. Missy, wanting to drink up as much of Ryan as she can, while she can... Ryan expressionless, going through the motions, just as he was told to during every procedure we'd ever asked him to endure. He was always so brave. I hated having to tell him "hang on, just a couple more minutes, you can do it, you're doing so well...." it was torture. He would look at me through his tears, his eyes saying, "why are you doing this to me" yet he would never utter a word. It makes me so sad I just can't bear it...

What an absolutely beautiful tribute to them both.

I love that picture...I love how Missy is looking at him.

Still praying for you, and I'll never stop.

Always in my thoughts...

I'm so, so sorry for your incredible loss. And the pain your family has endured during their long battle. There are no words to offer you comfort. I can only continue to pray you find strength and feel the loving arms of all those who lift you up to carry you through another day.

I'm just so sorry, and I'm praying that CURE raises millions...yes, MILLIONS of dollars to fight stupid cancer. Muriel Cash works at my son's school, and she speaks of you all with such love. And, as a Lighthouse volunteer, your family is legendary for the light and laughter they brought to the retreats. So many prayers have, are, and will go up for all of you.. I hope that you can feel them wrapping around you like a blanket.
